The 5 Biggest Mistakes in Running Ad Campaigns

Five mistakes that quietly eat advertising budgets, plus a calculator for your ROAS, CPA and break-even point.

Most campaigns do not fail because of the platform or the budget. They fail because of setup mistakes that repeat at almost every company. Here are the five I see most, with a calculator at the end to check whether your campaign is profitable.

01Mistake one: advertising before measurement is ready

Running a campaign without sound tracking is like driving without a dashboard. You may arrive, but you will not know what it cost or why.

02Mistake two: sending visitors to the home page

An ad is a promise, and the landing page has to finish the same promise in the same words.

WrongRight

An ad for one service, linked to the home page

Linked to that service's own page

Page headline says "Welcome"

Page headline repeats the ad's promise

Five buttons and three menus

One clear button, repeated down the page

A ten-field form

Name and phone; collect the rest later

Every extra click between the ad and the order loses some of the customers you paid to bring.

03Mistake three: judging the campaign too early

Changing the ad every two days stops the platform from learning. Give it enough time and data, and change one element at a time so you know what made the difference.

04Mistake four: measuring likes instead of sales

ROASRevenue from ads ÷ ad spendExample: 20,000 ÷ 5,000 = 4
CPAAd spend ÷ ordersExample: 5,000 ÷ 80 = 62.5
Break-even ROAS1 ÷ profit marginExample: a 30% margin needs ROAS above 3.33

05Mistake five: one ad for everyone

  1. Does not know you

Introduce the problem you solve, without asking for the sale straight away.

  2. Knows you, hesitating

Show proof: reviews, results, a guarantee, and an answer to the objection.

  3. Close to buying

Remind them with a clear offer and a deadline.

08The short version

You will usually find one or two of the five, and fixing them improves results without adding a riyal to the budget.
